ABOUT
Todd Durham, Counselor in Asheville NC

ABOUT

Through life experience we all construct beliefs about who we are and what we are capable of; some beliefs are helpful and some are not. Unfortunately for many of us, negative, unhelpful beliefs become the default thinking style or lens through which we view and experience the world.

By integrating elements of various therapeutic approaches we will work together to reduce the power that unhelpful beliefs (and the connected feelings or "felt sense") hold over your life direction and experience; the goal being for YOU to begin steering your life in the direction that you truly want to go.

My therapeutic style is warm, inviting, engaging, and hopeful. I work in a collaborative process, and do best with clients who are motivated to change. I also have a personal interest in working with clients interested in focusing on diet and lifestyle changes.

I have extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults in wilderness therapy programs and therapeutic boarding schools. My clients range in age from adolescents through older adults.

Talk Therapy

Talk therapy offers a supportive and collaborative space to explore your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns of behavior. Together, we will work to better understand the challenges you are facing, develop greater self-awareness, and cultivate new ways of relating to yourself that support a more meaningful and values-based lifestyle.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy recognizes that our experiences are held not only in our thoughts and emotions, but also within the body. Stress, trauma, and overwhelming experiences can influence the way we feel, respond, and relate to ourselves and the world around us.

Using approaches such as EMDR and therapeutic breathwork, somatic therapy supports the processing of unresolved trauma and emotions that may be held in the body. These approaches gently transform protective patterns, strengthen your capacity for self-regulation, and cultivate a deeper sense of safety, connection, and presence within yourself.

Integrative Health
Counseling

Integrative health counseling supports the psychological and behavioral aspects of creating lasting change by helping you better understand the patterns, habits and motivations that influence your physical health and well-being.

Using motivational interviewing and evidence-based behavior change strategies, we will work together to clarify meaningful goals, overcome barriers, and build sustainable habits that support your physical health and well-being. This collaborative process honors where you are while helping you move toward your values and the lifestyle you want to cultivate.
